How to Install a Vessel Sink

📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Dry Fit the Sink and Faucet Clearance
Place the vessel sink over the vanity drain cutout to check alignment and clearances. Position the vessel faucet behind or beside the bowl, ensuring the spout extends over the rim by at least 2 inches without obstructing hand washing. Mark the final positions with pencil or painter's tape on the countertop.

- • Faucet spout clearly overhangs the inner basin rim.

Install the Tall Vessel Faucet
Feed the braided supply lines and threaded faucet shank down through the mounting hole in the vanity. From underneath, slip the rubber washer, metal friction washer, and mounting nut over the lines onto the shank. Tighten the mounting nut firmly with an adjustable wrench while keeping the faucet aligned from above.

Install the Pop-Up Drain Assembly
Unthread the bottom nut and remove the lower rubber gasket from the pop-up drain body. Slide the top drain flange down through the sink's drain hole with the upper silicone washer in place. From underneath the sink, slide the beveled rubber gasket (bevel pointing up) and friction ring on, then thread the locking nut upward.

Mount and Seal the Vessel Sink
Apply a continuous 1/4-inch bead of 100% silicone caulk around the base ring or bottom contact rim of the sink. Lower the sink onto the vanity top, guiding the drain tailpiece directly through the countertop cutout. Press down firmly and check that the sink sits level, then wipe away any extruded silicone with a damp rag.

Connect the P-Trap to the Tailpiece
Slide the slip-joint nut and beveled washer onto the vessel drain tailpiece with the washer bevel facing downward. Connect the P-trap U-bend onto the tailpiece and align the trap arm into the wall drain pipe. Hand-tighten all slip-joint nuts firmly, followed by a quarter turn with channel lock pliers.

- • All plastic or brass slip nuts are fully threaded and seated square.
- • Cross-threading plastic slip nuts by forcing them when out of alignment.

Hook Up Supply Lines and Test for Leaks
Thread the hot and cold braided supply lines onto the angle stop shutoff valves and tighten with an adjustable wrench. Slowly turn both wall valves counterclockwise to fully open them. Turn on the faucet, let water fill the basin, then release the pop-up stopper to test full-volume drainage while inspecting every joint below with a dry tissue.
